Padres Trail
We had to work around a number of obstacles on this 1990’s Craftsman home in La Cañada-Flintridge: mature oak trees in the middle of traffic flow, aging concrete past its prime, and the 45-degree angles on a swimming pool and jacuzzi that needed some updating. The rear patio used to have bifurcated access to the backyard with two separate stairways around a mature oak tree that visually obstructed the view of the pool. The remedy? Filling in both stairways and transforming them into stepped raised planters, while building a wood deck around the oak tree to centralize traffic flow and allow for a new vantage point from which to enjoy the view of the yard. Other upgrades included a larger outdoor kitchen that we managed to tuck away out of view from the house, as well as a beautiful covered patio that truly allows for the Southern Californian indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
