Avenue 52

This historic Craftsman bungalow already had what was considered quite a small backyard. The previous owners had laid concrete on a slope over the entire area, leaving no room whatsoever for greenery. To boot, the change in elevation from the house to the backyard was too large to allow for any sort of an indoor-outdoor shared living space, so we built a split-level wood deck to help with the transition. There are terraced and raised planters, including space for raised vegetable beds up top, as well as a new concrete patio at the detached garage for an outdoor living room. This was a fun project and we’re just happy we were to infuse as much greenery as possible into such a small space.
